THE
CRUSADERS FOR A NOBLE CAUSE
In this materialistic world, where
self-interest is the sole criteria even for good deeds, there exist a
few individuals for whom charity in not just a concept but a way of
life. In fact, they have dedicated their entire lives to the cause dear
to them. AAPI Charitable Foundation revolves around some such great
souls. Their concern is the ailing humanity and their goal is to build a
healthy society.
One of the projects which has
showcased the mission of Dr. Sarjit Singh, the then President of
American Association of Physicians of Indian origin, was the AAPI
Charitable Hospital at Kartarpur to serve people of surrounding areas
with better health facilities. Joining hands with him, Dr. Mrs. Ranjit
got a Dispensary allocated to Punjab. The idea evolved during a General
Health Camp where 700 patients were examined by a team of Doctors headed
by Dr. Shingara Singh. Mr. Vijay Kalhan of Kartarpur and Ms. Suman Lata
proved to be the moving spirits behind the venture. Ms. Suman Lata, a
selfless social worker, donated the house of her late father Pt. Telu
Ram Kalhan and his land to start a Dispensary. The team worked hard
under the blessings of Dr.
Brigadier Daljitam Singh and the dispensary was inaugurated on May 1,
1991. Since then, with funds flowing in from the community in India and
abroad, the Dispensary in first step to the HOSPITAL in next step has
extended to include the adjoining land of 73 marlas in 2000 and the
foundation stone for the Multi-specialty Hospital was laid in July,
2002. Brick by brick, the structure arose and now a complete Eye and
Dental Block of this Multi-specialty Wing is going to be thrown open for
the benefit of the people each new addition is a dream fulfilled for
AAPI. Earlier, the basic structure of Basment for Diagnostic and other
Services were got ready in
November , 2002 and work began for the first floor. A Pediatric Wing is on the anvil.
We
are Thankful to Dr. SARJIT SINGH M.D. (Ex-President, AAPI, USA) and Dr.
(Mrs) RANJIT SINGH M.D. for their personal assurance to start PEDIATRIC
WING.
